Who are the starting pitchers?Yankees: RHP Gerrit Cole (8-5, 3.41 ERA in the regular season)Cole will make his third career World Series start, having taken the ball twice in 2019 for the Astros, winning one and losing one. The AL’s reigning Cy Young Award winner, Cole’s season debut was delayed until June 19 due to nerve irritation in his pitching elbow, and he was limited to 17 starts during the regular season. Cole is 1-0 with a 3.31 ERA in three starts this postseason. His sharpest outing came vs. the Royals in ALDS Game 4, when he navigated seven innings of one-run ball.
The series-deciding seventh game was a scoreless tie (0–0) through the regular nine innings, and went into extra innings; Minnesota won by a score of 1–0 in the 10th inning, after their starting pitcher, Jack Morris, pitched a complete 10 inning shutout 7th game. (Morris was named Most Valuable Player for the Series.)
Game of thrones world map
These are the official maps of Game of Thrones, created for The Lands of Ice and Fire. They are canon – and the only maps to cover the east of Essos, including everything from Qarth to Asshai. They were created for Random House, from the hand drawn maps of George RR Martin,
The unpredictable and years-long seasons of the world Westeros is in are in some ways more akin to mini-Ice Ages and warming periods, such as happened in the real-life Earth, though never to this degree. The “Medieval Warm Period” was a period of rising average temperatures across the northern hemisphere from the years 950 to 1250, which was followed by the “Little Ice Age”, an equally long period of falling average temperatures. The major difference is that these “mini-Ice Ages” occurred gradually over a period of two or three centuries on real-life Earth: Westeros, in contrast, can shift within a matter of years or months into a bitterly cold “winter” lasting a decade. There is still some variation in temperature across a normal “calendar year” in Westeros, so that what should be winter months in a normal 12 month year do tend to be slightly colder than the rest. Because the North is located at a higher latitude it experiences such variation to a greater degree, and is known to experience “summer snows” during years-long summer seasons (i.e. during what should be winter months in a normal 12 month seasonal cycle). Such “summer snows” in the North are mentioned by Pycelle in Season 1’s “Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things”.
Even the world map appearing in The Lands of Ice and Fire, however, only depicts a map of “the known world” as it would be known to educated men in Westeros, such as the maesters of the Citadel. Thus it is reasonably accurate for regions of the eastern continents which are well-known to Westeros through trade contact (the Free Cities, Valyria, Slaver’s Bay, etc.) but in the extreme far east near distant Asshai, myths and legends cloud the facts, resulting in descriptions of cannibals, “bloodless men”, and “winged men” on the map which should not be accepted by the reader as objectively true. As George R.R. Martin himself explains:
This is a map of the world depicted in the novel series A Song of Ice & Fire and the TV adaptation, A Game of Thrones. The website is designed to display useful information on top of the map layer and link to additional details on the Westeros.org wiki site.
The peninsula of Dorne is the southernmost region of Westeros and boasts an extremely unique and liberal culture relative to the rest of the continent. They embrace sexual freedoms and welcome illegitimate children into their families publicly. Historically, this is because Dorne’s House Martell was never conquered by House Targaryen in Game of Thrones – a glimpse into the sociocultural divisions splitting the Westerosi people. This cultural dissonance is also partially due to the region being cut off from the rest of Westeros by the Red Mountains, not unlike the Iberian Peninsula and the Andes Mountains in Europe, and also due to the fact that it was settled by an Essosian people called the Rhoynish and not the First Men or the Andals like the rest of Westeros. Like the North, Dorne has had one major family of rulers for most of its history, but House Martell is currently headless after nearly everyone in the family died in Game of Thrones season 7.
Game 2 world series 2024
Yamamoto left his June 15 start after only two innings and was placed on the injured list the next day with a strained rotator cuff in his right shoulder He was transferred to the 60–day injured list in July 13. Yamamoto was activated off the injured list on September 10. In 18 starts for the Dodgers in 2024, he was 7–2 with a 3.00 ERA and 105 strikeouts. He made his playoff debut on October 8, in Game 1 of the National League Division Series, giving up five runs to the Padres in three innings. In his second start of the series, on October 12, he picked up his first postseason win, striking out two and allowed just two hits in five scoreless innings, retiring the last seven batters he faced, as the Dodgers won the series. He then made one start, in Game 4, in the National League Championship Series, allowing two runs on four hits in 4+1⁄3 innings, while striking out eight batters. In Game 2 of the 2024 World Series against the New York Yankees, Yamamoto pitched 6+1⁄3 innings, allowing just one run on one hit (a solo home run by Juan Soto).
The Yankees have had a hard time publicly admitting that Judge is missing pitches in the postseason that he would normally get to. Whether it’s the long layoff before the playoffs began or the break between the ALCS and the World Series, it seems entirely plausible that the lack of everyday at-bats and games have messed up Judge’s timing. That could be why he finally broke out in Game 3 of the ALCS against the Guardians with a game-tying two-run home run off star closer Emmanuel Clase. If Judge just needs time to warm up, then he could have a huge week ahead of him when the Series goes to the Bronx on Monday. With a championship on the line, the Yankees can only hope that’s the case. — Deesha Thosar
How commanding is that lead? In all best-of-seven postseason series, teams taking a 2-0 lead have gone on to win the series 77 of 92 times (84%). Under the current 2-3-2 format, teams winning Games 1 and 2 at home have gone on to take the series 45 of 56 times (80%).
Turns out Edman’s MVP performance in the Dodgers’ NLCS against the Mets wasn’t a fluke. Los Angeles’ Swiss-army knife has picked up right where he left off, going 4-for-8 with two runs scored and an RBI in the World Series so far. His latest trick was a solo shot to left field off Carlos Rodón in the second inning to put the Dodgers on the board.
Though the Yankees struck back with a Juan Soto solo shot — the lone mistake from Yamamoto — in the top of the third, the game wasn’t knotted for long. In the bottom of the third, the loaded Dodgers lineup feasted on Rodón fastballs to mount a two-out rally.
LOS ANGELES — It was a night of loud noises. A pregame performance from L.A. legend Ice Cube. The ball bounding off the Dodgers’ bats. A standing ovation for Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The gigantic center-field speakers blaring party music in a celebratory setting.
